Trabold Residence
Client: Private homeowner
Location: Vail, CO
Scope: Landscape Architecture and Outdoor Living Enhancement
Challenge: Redesign both the indoor and outdoor landscape connection to complement new architectural features while embracing the Colorado mountain lifestyle and maximizing natural light integration into the interior spaces.
Solution:
Native Planting Scheme: Focused on seasonal, native plantings to provide color year-round and celebrate the Colorado mountain lifestyle.
Redesigned Retaining Wall Tiers and Entry Courtyard: Revamped the three-tiered retaining walls and the native Colorado plantings between them.
Sunken Garden Design: Worked with the architect to create a sunken garden at the new entry of the home and was also visible from the interior, enhancing natural light and living design.
Expanded Rear Patio: Extended the patio for observing Gore Creek and the Gore Mountains, adding glass guardrails for unobstructed views and a fire pit for entertainment and selected plants for built-in plant containers.
Lower Patio as Softscape: Transformed the lower patio into a softscape with Scottish moss, turf, thyme, and natural boulders, creating a tranquil, passive recreation focused space.
Stream Access and Wildflower Meadow: Provided access to the stream and established a natural wildflower meadow in the back steep areas, enhancing the natural beauty of the landscape.
Paving Selection - Driveway and entry courtyard paver selection.
Native Planting Focus - Selected native plants to be placed in the mountain environment to enhance the mountain living experience.
Result: A successful landscape redesign that seamlessly integrates with the new architectural features, maximizes natural light, and embraces the Colorado natural environment. The project reflects a collaborative effort to meet the client's needs and desires, creating inviting outdoor spaces for relaxation, entertainment, and connection to nature.
